Dental Implants

People who have beautiful teeth are considered to be happy, healthy and successful. Unfortunately, very few of us are naturally blessed with perfect smiles, and there is almost certainly something about our teeth that we would change. Smile makeovers are becoming increasingly common, and dental implants are quickly becoming the gold standard of treatment. Stable, strong, discreet and outstandingly beautiful, they really can transform the appearance of your teeth and give your confidence a tremendous boost.

Although once considered a treatment only for the wealthy or elite, today dental implants are accessible and affordable for a wide variety of patients. Interested? Of course you are, so let’s find out more.

What are dental implants

Dental implants are a restorative solution that is both functional and cosmetic. If you have lost one or multiple teeth as a result of decay or trauma, then dental implants can replace those that are missing and complete your smile. However, because implants can be created in any shape, size and color you desire, they are a popular choice for purely cosmetic treatments, with some patients choosing to replace every natural tooth in their mouth with an implant.

The anatomy of an implant

Dental implants are comprised of three components. The visible portion of the tooth is a porcelain crown, that is custom-designed to fit in with your other teeth in terms of size, shape and color. The crown is attached to an abutment, which then connects it to the hidden part of the implant – a titanium post which is embedded into the jaw bone. This post is crucial to the structure of the implant as over time it fuses to the bone in a process called osseointegration, which makes it the most secure and stable fitting of any dental restoration.

The benefits of dental implants

Dental implants have a number of unique advantages over other restorative solutions that help make them so popular among our patients.

Strong and durable

The process of osseointegration helps to secure the implant firmly in place. It is a permanent solution that can withstand extensive day to day use without coming loose. Should the crown ever need replacing, this can be done with no impact on the titanium implant post.

With care and attention, many patients find that their implants last them a lifetime, making them a solid investment in your dental future.

In the past, dentures have been used to replace multiple missing teeth. However, dentures are renowned for moving around in the mouth, which can be noticeable and embarrassing for the patient. The permanency of dental implants means that there are no awkward slips and no need to remove them to eat certain foods.

One of the key benefits of dental implants is that they are the prosthetic that most closely resemble natural teeth. The crowns are created in porcelain and can be finished in the color of your choice, meaning that you can match them to existing teeth so that they blend right in. Alternatively, if you are looking to replace all of your teeth, you can select the shade of whiteness that will give you a naturally bright smile.

Our technology

At EQ Dental, we are committed to using the most innovative technology to help us provide an outstanding service to our patients. Nowhere is this more evident than in our dental implant treatments, for which we use i-CAT Cone Beam imaging. The i-CAT beam is beneficial in several ways.

Firstly, it provides a more thorough analysis of your jaw bone structure, ensuring that it is dense and strong enough to support your dental implants.

Secondly, the i-CAT technology can accurately calculate the perfect positioning for multiple implants, ensuring that your new smile is a perfect and natural fit.

Finally, the i-CAT system allows for comprehensive treatment planning in full 3D which gives patients the opportunity to see how their new smile will appear before they even start their treatment.

The process to receive dental implants

Dental implant surgery usually takes place over several appointments, in addition to your consultation and imaging appointments. During the first part of the process, you will attend an appointment to put the titanium posts in place in your jaw bone. You will then be fitted with temporary crowns and the implant posts will be left for several months so that they can fuse with the jawbone.

You will then return to our offices several months later so that we can remove your temporary crowns and fit your final, permanent ones.

However, it is important to point out that each dental implant procedure is completely unique and tailored to the needs of the patient. Therefore, the exact details of your treatment plan will be discussed with you at your consultation.
